Jacob Flaherty

Director of Worship Ministries

I grew up in a Christian home where godly values were modeled for me. I made a choice to follow Christ when I was very young, and can point to an incredible church and school that helped mold and shape who I am today. However, looking back at my life decisions, I now recognize my motivation and behavior was driven more from a desire to please others than to please God.

This root motivator changed significantly during and after pursuing a music degree at George Fox University. Through a challenging time of feeling lost and personal discovery, I took my faith seriously. Taking the time to write down who I was, what I believed, and why was integral in discovering that I have a love and anointing for Worship ministry.

I am still growing every day and recognize that without the wisdom and mentorship from past and current leaders in my life, I would not be the man I am today. To those mentors and leaders… thank you for taking the time to speak into my life and guide me to maturity. Catherine and I met after college, and I absolutely believe God brought her into my life when I needed her most. Together, we have a beautiful, shy baby girl named Christina. Walks, exploring new cities, board game nights, music, and Netflix are favorite pastimes in our family.

Julie grew up in Portland, OR, and attended Portland First Church of the Nazarene, where she eventually worked as a secretary for seven years. After attending Northwest Nazarene (College) University for one year, Julie earned her AA Degree in Accounting from Clark College here in Vancouver. She was invited to work at Hillcrest in 2000. Julie and her husband, Lance Luedtke were married in 2003 at Hillcrest. To Julie it is a humbling thing to be surrounded by the Hillcrest Family who exemplify the following scripture. Colossians 3:12-15: “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”
